In June, we had our Annual General Meeting to take care of Guild year business, including elections for some new Executive members. However, that was after we welcomed back Deepika Prakash, founder of PatternReview.com, as guest speaker. This time, she spoke to us about Indie Sewing as members had picked this among several topics about which Deepika was willing to talk to us.
Can someone teach sewing machine maintenance virtually via Zoom? Apparently, to be polite, heck ya!!! Maybe it’s not so obvious, but one person who certainly could was Canadian sewing machine technician extraordinaire, Bernie Tobisch! He is also the author of You and Your Sewing Machine, and Sewing Machine Reference Tool, and he was our Guild’s guest speaker for our May 2021 meeting that got turned into a machine maintenance class for a good portion of it.
I’m not sure how many of our Guild members made New Year resolutions regarding the making of COVID cloth face masks. However, many members made some 4300 face masks in total for the Northwood Seniors Home, Halifax campus! This was in the early days of the pandemic in 2020, when the facility put out a call for such masks during times when PPEs were in short supply. For this, Lisa Roberts, Member of the Legislative Assembly of Nova Scotia representing Halifax Needham within which Northwood is located, made a Resolution (#453) for the Guild on April 13th, 2021!
