So Josee is doing a ‘make your own trim’ class in February and it would be nice if I had a Chanel style jacket ready to put it on, eh? I’ve been collecting fabric long enough. So who’s up for a sew along?
Basically we would all be working on a jacket, in our own way but keeping in touch and helping each other out – either here on the blog or by meeting in person. How to start? Well I’m thinking selecting a pattern would be nice. There are lots out there that seem to be suitable. For advice we can turn to a few places. Threads had a series of articles on ‘how to’ using a lot of hand techniques(#121) or using machines short cuts. What seems to be important is the princess seaming and 2 or 3 part sleeves. Susan Khalje gives a few examples of patterns but I don’t know how many of these are still current. Burda 8414, Butterick 4028, McCall’s 4311, Simplicity 4971, Vogue 7975 and also I just bought the Claire Shaeffer Vogue 8804. It seems to be full of instructions. I may have to read them this time.
So, who’s in? What pattern are you going with? Let’s round up the wagon train and see what we’ve got.
I am using Vogue 8259-Claire Shaeffer’s first chanel jacket but I am not using the Nehru collar. I hope to make the front lower and allow the jacket to close using hooks and eyes instead of buttons.
